Until now, machining right through work pieces when using vacuum to clamp the component was not possible due to the resulting loss of vacuum once the surface is pierced. When using the cutout procedure, the remaining material has to be removed and deburred by hand; a time consuming, expensive and sometimes dangerous work procedure.


With VAC-MAT, milling through the component or profiling its edges is now possible during one clamping operation. Costly manual procedures like removing rest material, deburring and finishing can be avoided. Also fixing the components using conventional clamps, double sided tape, inserting O-shape seal into grooves is no longer necessary when using the VAC-MAT system.

The VAC-MAT consists of a flexible polymer sheet. Independent suction cups cover its surface and each of these vacuum points has a flexible sealing lip. Even if one or several cups are damaged during the machining process, the rest of the cups are active holding the component firmly in position. Six plastic lugs at the rear of the mat position it on the vacuum base plate. Also on the rear of the VAC-MAT a set of grooves distribute the vacuum uniformly over its complete surface.

The VAC-MAT has a standard surface area of 200 mm x 300mm and has a thickness of are 2,5 mm. As the VAC-MAT base plates are modular and inter-connectable, any surface area or arrangement is possible.
